Legs are part of the table structure, not just a way to lift a plate to waist height. Replacing them can change support spacing, stiffness, access underneath and the position of the load above the floor.

If you already own a top, begin with its approved mounting pattern and support requirements. If you are buying a whole table, compare the base as carefully as the working surface.

Three bases, three different buying questions

A fixed frame suits a table that stays assembled. A folding base prioritizes storage and handling. Short benchtop legs make sense only when the supporting bench is suitable for the complete operation.

Set height around the work, not an average person

The useful height is where the joint sits. A tall fixture or deep frame can move the welding position well above the tabletop. Sketch the normal component and check torch access, visibility and room for your hands before ordering legs.

If several people share the station, an approved adjustable design may be useful. Account for the weight and method of adjustment: a table that technically changes height may still require unloading before the change. Do not assume it can be raised while an assembly remains clamped on top.

Look under the tabletop before choosing the frame

Crossmembers and shelves can obstruct clamp handles, backing nuts and access to the underside of holes. The same space may be needed for a chair, pedal or work connection. Review the underside drawing alongside the fixture list.

A shelf is useful when it has a stated capacity and does not put stored items in an inappropriate hot-work location. Do not remove a brace simply to create more legroom. Ask the manufacturer whether it is structural and whether another approved configuration exists.

Replacement legs need more than a matching bolt

Confirm the mounting pattern, hardware specification, attachment surface and supported top configuration. A threaded leveling foot must match its receiver and permitted engagement; a similar-looking thread is not a sufficient identification.

For custom fabrication, decide what the design must carry and how the top connects before selecting tube size. There is no safe universal leg dimension based only on tabletop length. Use an engineered design or a proven manufacturer-supported assembly when the loads or consequences require it.

Assembly and adjustment remain part of ownership

Follow the tightening, alignment and inspection sequence in the manual. Klutch’s table instructions specifically call for tightened fasteners and a hard, level supporting surface. A well-specified frame still needs correct assembly.

Recheck the arrangement when adding a vise, changing the top or fitting casters. Those changes can alter access and working height as well as structural demands. Keep the original instructions and exact part identifiers so a future replacement does not become a guessing exercise.
