What System 16, 22 and 28 mean

The numbers identify bore diameters in millimeters. Siegmund positions System 16 toward finer fabrication, System 22 toward general medium-duty structures, and System 28 toward work needing the larger system. Its comparison page identifies a 50 mm surface grid for System 16 and 100 mm or diagonal arrangements for the larger systems.

Treat that as a starting point for discussion with the supplier. The weight, geometry and distortion forces of your actual assemblies matter more than a label such as professional or hobby. Larger tooling can also change how easily you reach small joints.

Buy the fixture arrangement you will use

Make a drawing of a representative frame or assembly and show the reference edges, stops and clamps you expect to need. Request a tooling list against that drawing. This gives the supplier something concrete to configure and gives you a basis for evaluating the proposed set.

Count the parts needed simultaneously. A photograph demonstrating several possible uses of one square does not mean the bundle contains enough squares to do them all at once. Ask which pieces can remain in place for a repeated job and which will be shared with other workstations.

A system match is more useful than a close dimension

Siegmund describes tooling compatibility within a named system, but the required connecting parts still matter. Its Work and EcoAvanti guidance qualifies within-system compatibility by the use of spacer rings. Confirm the exact table, accessory and any required ring before treating two same-system products as directly interchangeable.

Connecting elements are also offered for some cross-system arrangements. Neither statement establishes universal compatibility with other brands.

For an existing accessory inventory, provide the exact part numbers and drawings. A metric hole pattern and an imperial pattern can appear nearly identical while differing in pitch. Multi-point fixtures make that distinction especially relevant. Obtain an explicit answer for each adapter or mixed setup.

Specify the support arrangement with the top

The complete table includes its legs or other support system. Ask the supplier to confirm the proposed load with the selected number and type of legs and any mobile components. Do not add individual leg ratings together and call the result a workstation rating.

A large table also creates installation questions: unloading, moving through the building, positioning and access around the work. Resolve those before ordering. The most convenient table to fixture on can still be awkward to install in a crowded shop.

When the investment has a clear purpose

A comprehensive system is easier to justify when it solves repeated setup work, accommodates a growing family of fixtures or meets a documented fabrication requirement. Ask for a demonstration using your parts or a close equivalent. Track the setup steps it removes rather than accepting a broad productivity promise.

For occasional repairs held with a few edge clamps, a simpler table may cover the work. That does not make one purchase more serious than the other. It means the business case should come from the job, the fixture list and the inspection requirement.

Get a quote that is specific enough to compare

Request the exact table article number, system, material/finish, dimensions, support components and accessory list. Include freight and installation needs. Keep optional items separate so you can see what makes the proposed setup complete.
